Kennels and crates provide the perfect shelter for your pooch. While many think it is inhuman to have a dog house or a wired cage, it has been noticed that giving them a space of their own not only makes them obedient, but also makes them feel special. Here are a few ways in which you can provide shelter to your furry friend.
Play pens: Play pens give your pooch room to run around and play.

This can also be used for exercise and can be placed indoors or outdoors. However, you must make sure the dogs are supervised while they’re in it. Otherwise, they will try to jump out and get injured. Most play pens have ample amount of space to keep food, toys and a comfortable bed.
Travel carriers: Travel carriers are available in many sizes. The ones for small pets look like duffle bags and are extremely easy to carry around. If you have a huge dog, soft and big carriers are also easily available. So, if you’re planning to go camping, you can easily fit your little pooch into this one and take him/ her around.
Dog house: Usually for outdoor use, dog houses provide the perfect shelter for your pooch. While your dog may love staying indoors, you can also give him a special place to relax outdoors. Made of wood or plastic, these houses can be used when they want a cosy place to curl up in. But make sure you keep it in a zone where it is not likely to get flooded. Ideally, they should be placed in shaded areas.
Plastic kennels: The most popular among all the dog kennels, these are light and easy to clean. Small plastic kennels even have handles on the top so you can carry them around without any problems while the large ones have wheels.
Wire kennels: Wired kennels are made entirely of metal caging. The bottom of the kennel has a tray that can be pushed inside or outside. These can be used while travelling too as they are collapsible. Beds can also be placed within this area to make a cosy environment for the pet.

How to choose the right kennel
Go for a look-around in advance: It is important to take a look at a variety of kennels and carriers before you finally choose the best one for your pet. So, don’t be lazy and head out to choose that perfect space for your furry friends a few days in advance.
Look for special features: Kennels need to be warm and cosy for your pet. Make sure these features are a part of the kennels you choose. Most importantly, there needs to be sufficient space for your pet to move around in them.
Hygiene is important: It is important for dogs to be vaccinated before they move in to their kennels so that transmission of diseases such as kennel cough can be avoided.
